Laddu Gopal Poshak began with a simple refusal: we decided the outfit on a baby Krishna idol deserved the same care as the sangeet kurta in your closet. So we make it that way — measured, cut, and finished entirely by hand.
Why we make it
A workshop, not a catalogue.
Most “idol clothes” are mass-printed, mass-cut, and mass-shipped. They look fine in a listing photo and a little less fine on the shelf, a week later. We couldn’t build a business around that compromise, because the whole point of a poshak is the point: dressing the one figure you keep close.
So there is one studio, one artisan, and a workbench. Chanderi silk and hand-blocked cotton are chosen piece by piece. Real zari is worked in by hand. And every design is capped at twenty five pieces — because when the twenty-fifth is finished, the design is done, and the next one begins again from a blank cloth.
It is slower than it could be. It is also, we think, the only way to make something worth keeping.

The making
Five steps, by hand
The same path for every piece that leaves the studio — nothing is skipped, nothing is automated.

Measured to the inch
Every poshak is cut for a named idol size — 4″, 6″, 8″, or 12″. The fit is stated in inches on the product page, so you’re never guessing from a photo.

Cloth chosen, not bought
Chanderi silk and hand-blocked cotton are selected piece by piece. The weave has to read right in the light; if it doesn’t, it doesn’t go on an idol.

Cut by hand
No cutting machine. Each panel is cut by hand to a pattern, which is why two pieces of the same design carry the smallest, most human differences.

Zari, stitch by stitch
Forty grams of real metal-thread zari are worked in by hand — not a metallic plastic, not a printed imitation. A single Chanderi poshak takes fourteen days on the frame.

The finish
Every piece is held up to the light and read stitch by stitch. If there is one I’m not proud of, it goes back. What reaches you has already passed that test.
